We are members of the SWPP (society of wedding and portrait photographers) BPPA (British professional photographers association) and the FSB (federation of small businesses). I am very much a family man, living with my wife, our 8 year old Autistic Son, & my teenage Daughter who sometimes assists me at local events.
When I got married a few years ago we booked the photographer who had recently photographed my Brother-in-laws wedding. Despite being a keen amateur photographer, I knew nothing about wedding photography. I loved taking pictures of my family and pets, as well as trying to capture sunsets and the occasional wildlife shot.

I'd not concerned myself with what he was doing at my brother-in-laws wedding, but at my own wedding it was quite clear that this guy was not very experienced at handling people. Another thing occurred to me too, he was missing the boat when it came to capturing the day. He spent a couple of hours staging different family group shots and missed all the magic moments that were taking place behind him. What seemed like a good deal initially turned out to be a bad choice.
I am not going to mention any names of course as I think he still photographs weddings. But this experience pushed me to study photography at Wolverhampton College, and attend some workshops and seminars with the SWPP (society of wedding and portrait photographers).

In 2007 I had the honour of winning an international award for my wedding photography, having fought off competition from the rest of Europe, Australia, Canada and USA. The competition was judged by fellow wedding photographers so it was a great feeling to be commended by my peers. I now also train other wedding photographers.
